THE COUNCIL cabinet is set to decide whether to sell the old Blackbridge mine depot to a company linked with Milford Haven Port Authority.
On Monday, the cabinet will go into private session to decide whether to sell a company called Haven Facilities a 999-year lease on the now-derelict site.
It is understood the company is working with the port authority on plans to establish a container terminal there. But concern has already been voiced as to whether the plan would have implications for LNG tankers heading for the Dragon facility at Waterston.
Spokesman for pressure group Safe Haven Gordon Main commented: "At first glance, so to speak, this sounds like a much better idea for Milford Haven. However if Milford is to become an LNG port, then it is clear that container ships, as heavy displacement vessels, must increase the risk of catastrophic collision.
"It really is time for the whole matter of LNG safety to be taken out of the port authority's hands and given to an independent regulator with the stature of the HSE."
