Four-star Blues sink Nomads

From the archive, first published Thursday 19th Jan 2006.

Neyland 2 Narberth 4 NEYLAND crashed to a third successive defeat as Narberth took the points from a six goal thriller.

Mark Edwards' side had lost to a 90th minute strike against Tenby the previous week but looked to have got that disappointment quickly out of their system with an early breakthrough.

Nomads striker Adrian Moore nipped in front of his marker to fire Paul Hannon's cross beyond Narberth keeper James Morgan.

But the lead was short lived and it kick-started a frantic 15 minute spell of goals, chances and drama.

Narberth went immediately on the counter-attack and won a corner. Neyland's marking let them down and midfielder Grant James found time and space to equalise.

Narberth had their tails up now and soon took the lead. James was again involved and it was his incisive through ball that found the impressive Richard Nash.

Nash controlled instantly and lashed his shot beyond Patrick Hannon to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

And the game seemed to be wrapped up before the break when Narberth's Jason Jones gave his side a two goal advantage.

Jones made no mistake when the chance presented itself inside the box and, having been a goal up, Neyland found themselves in all sorts of trouble.

A few choice words from player-manager Edwards provided the Nomads with a kick up the backside and they were back in the game early in the second period.

Paul Hannon slotted home calmly and the game could have gone either way.

But with Neyland pressing for the equaliser, Raff Barnett broke at the other end, rounded Patrick Hannon and slotted the fourth and decisive goal.

Neyland will be looking to put a stop to the disappointing run when they face Herbrandston this weekend.
