No stopping Swifts

Carew 0 Monkton Swifts 1 MONKTON Swifts' march towards another league title continued with a single goal win over battling Carew.

And with Hakin slipping up again, it now looks just a matter of time before the championship silverware is confirmed.

Swifts dominated the game from start to finish but a single Ben Goldsmith strike was all the visitors had to show for their efforts.

Unusually the Swifts were off colour in front of goal, with top striker Stephen Davies having a rare off day.

Davies, normally deadly from in and around the box, even had a penalty saved by Carew number one Ian Kerrison in the first-half as the home side looked to be frustrating the champions.

But on the stroke of half-time striker Goldsmith nipped in between defenders and slipped his shot past Kerrison to give his side the lead.

It always looked like being enough to win the game and Carew offered little as an attacking force.

Keeper Craig Reardon was little more than a spectator as Monkton bossed the possession and it seemed only a matter of time before they increased the lead.

Davies fired narrowly wide, Goldsmith had a few other chances and Kerrison kept the Swifts at bay with a number of good saves.

And in the end one goal was enough to secure the Swifts their 12th win of the season and moved them six points ahead of nearest rivals Hakin United.
