Cresselly (167 for 9) drew with Lawrenny (178 all out)
Umpires: Dave Morris and Barry Wood Scorers: Dave Richards and Malcolm Thomas
There was a tense finish at Cresselly as the home side battled hard to overcome the concerted challenge of nearest neighbours Lawrenny, who amassed 178 all out after being asked to bat first.
Cresselly had three of their opponents' overs to utilise but were still 12 runs short after last pair Adam Chandler and James Caine denied the Lawrenny bowlers for the final eight overs and contributed 33 vital runs which earned their side maximum draw points.
Lawrenny did well to reach such a healthy total as they lost three wickets for 39 runs, Mark Harris marking his first game since finishing college with the wickets of Chris Vincent and Simon Cole.
Adi Harries also fell to Caine before James Buckle found form with 62 runs, including four fours and three big sixes. He had solid support from Rob Williams (22), Ian Jenkins (17) and Christian Phillips (17 not out) but Ryan Lewis (3 for 36), Adam Chandler (2 for 28) and Lyn Richards (2 for 13) helped Cresselly bowl out their old opponents in 42 overs.
Cresselly lost Julian Arthur from Rob Williams' first over and finished with 3 for 32 alongside Steve Rees' 2 for 33 as Cresselly found it hard going after skipper Richard Harris had departed for 20. But Adam Chandler batted really well for his unbeaten 57 (four boundaries and two sixes) and Hugh Griffiths chipped in with 17 before he became one of James Buckle's two wickets.
And so Cresselly stood at 134 for 9 when Caine joined Chandler as Lawrenny moved in for the kill. But this stubborn pair gradually built a worthwhile partnership to keep out Lawrenny - and in the final analysis of a good game, perhaps a draw was the fairest result.
