Hook (145 for 9) drew with Haverfordwest (191 for 7) Umpires: Hilliard Davies and Trefor Evans Scorers: Joy James and Jayne Cole
A spirited 47 by No 10 batsman Andrew Thomas, ably assisted by Julian Green in a stand of 77, helped Hook gain a creditable draw against a Haverfordwest side which must have thought they were well down the road to victory when the pair came together for the ninth wicket at 68 for 8, chasing 192 runs to win.
Haverfordwest's total owed much to the stylish batting of Phil Sutton, who batted well for his unbeaten 62 alongside solid contributions by Andrew Phillips (35), Phil Kirkby (21) and Dai Davies (22) as Matthew Holder topped the Hook wicket tally with three scalps, including Matthew Johns first ball as Keith James took a superb low catch.
Adrian Griffiths started The Town off well as he bowled Matthew Rowlands but then had to stop bowling with a leg injury - but off-spinner Clive Tucker spun a web to claim 5 for 26 in his 12 overs, ably assisted by keeper Huw Scriven's three sharp stumpings. Tucker had excellent support from fellow-spinner Matthew Johns, who started so well that after six overs, all maidens, he had three wickets!
But then Thomas and Green went on the counter-attack as Green adopted the unusual role of anchor man in his unbeaten 26, with just one six and a four to his credit.
Thomas had six boundaries and a six to his credit but was out just when set for a deserved half century.
It left last man Wayne Griffiths to cope with the last few balls, which he did, and Hook were able to claim a draw which at one time certainly seemed unlikely.
