Arrest in council fraud probe

From the Milford Mercury, first published Friday 23rd May 2003.

POLICE have arrested a Milford man following an investigation into alleged fraud in the housing benefit department of Pembrokeshire County Council.

The Mercury understands that the police investigation was sparked by suspicions that money was being sent to fictitious housing benefit claimants.

Inquiries are continuing, but Chief Inspector Roger Hughes confirmed to the Mercury that a 29-year Milford man was arrested on May 15 and was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Pembrokeshire County Council declined to comment on the matter.
